Common Questions

Your Lawn Alton

COMMON QUESTIONS I GET ASKED.

Outstanding Quality

  • What is Scarifying and why do I need it?
Scarifying is the process of removing dead organic matter from the lawn by mechanically raking out the thatch and moss. It should be carried out once or twice a year in the Spring and Autumn to keep your lawn in tip top condition.
  • How Often Should my lawn be mowed?
Mowing your lawn often is one of the single best things you can do to keep it healthy and looking good. I recommend mowing once or even twice a week taking no more than a third off the grass blades.
  • What time of year is best to renovate my lawn?
Lawn renovations can be carried out any time during the growing season (March-October) but Spring and Autumn are the optimum times.
  • Why is my lawn still looking brown even after watering?
There are a few reasons for this but the most common is when the lawn turns Hydrophobic. This is most prevalent during the summer months when the molecular structure of the soil changes and doesn’t allow water to penetrate the soil. I use wetting agents as well as a few other secret ingredients to tackle this.
  • How long will it take for my lawn to look great after a lawn renovation?
You should start to see the new grass shoots coming through in 5-10 days and after a couple of weeks the lawn will start to look vastly improved. After 4-6 weeks your new lawn should be established and looking great.
